Wikitude World Browser
Wikitude World Browser ist ein mobiler Augmented Reality (AR) browser für die Android Plattform (Google Phone) der auf standort-bezogenen Wikipedia- und Qype-Artikeln und Panoramio Photos beruht. Somit können weltweit ca. 350.000 Artikel nach Adresse oder GPS Position durchsucht werden.
Gefundene Artikel können auf einer Karten -, Satelliten -, Listen -, aber auch auf einer “Augmented Reality” Kameraansicht dargestellt werden. Dabei wird das Kamerabild des G1 Handys mit computer-generierten Daten überlagert.
Simpel Search
Wikitude AR ist die erste Augmented Reality Anwendung für das G1 und ging mit dem US und UK Launch des G1 Handys im Oktober 2008 live. Wikitude AR ist im Android Market verfügbar.
In Österreich und Deutschland ist Wikitude AR mit den Launch des G1 Handys im ersten Quartal 2009 auf den Markt gekommen.

Map View – Suche nach Points of Interest
Mit Wikitude AR können Sie 350.000 weltweite Points of Interests an Ihrem momentanen Standort oder nach Adresse durchsuchen. Um die Suche möglichst einfach und intuitiv zu gestalten, gibt es zwei Suchvarianten:
- Simple Search, um eine standortbezogene Suche nach sämtlichen Points of Interest zu starten
- Advanced Search um zusätzliche Kriterien für die Suche festzulegen: Kategorie, Distanz und Suchbegriff

Map, List – Anzeige der Suchergebnisse auf einer Karte
Die Suchergebnisse werden auf einer Karte (Karten und Satellitenansicht) als orange Punkte dargestellt. Ausgewählte Points of Interest werden mit einer Sprechblase und zusätzlichen Infos versehen.
Kamera-Ansicht
Die Suchergebnisse werden in der Kamera-Ansicht des Mobiltelefons mit den Beschreibungen der Sehenswürdigkeiten überlagert.

Das wirklich beeindruckende Feature von Wikitude AR ist die Augmented Reality Kamera-Ansicht: Anwender können das Handy zum Beispiel vor eine Bergkette halten, und Name, Höhe und weitere Texte werden zu diesen Bergen angezeigt. I attended a conference which mentioned Wikitude and it sounded to me like the best thing ever. Unfortunately this was just after I got my brand spankin’ new Blackberry Curve. Will this application EVER be available for BB?? :’(

Wikitude does not seem to be available for download for the cupcake version.
Only the premium version seems to be visible on the market. Is-it normal ? Any other place to download it and give it a try ?

wikitude is available for 1.5 (cupcake). Just search marketplace for “wikitude” .. The actual application is called “Wikitude AR Guide”

Hi! You should port Wikitude to Maemo, now that Nokia has announced the N900 handset that’s looking like a very strong contender. Shouldn’t be too big a task, since Maemo has a Debian GNU/Linux core.

Maemo will die an early death/never reach critical mass – just like the S60 v5 until Nokia does not get behind creating and SUPPORTING application development for its platforms.
Besides, the Maemo does NOT have a digital compass compared to the new Android phones – hence the application will be limited in its accuracy and usability.
