Wikitude World Browser
May 10th, 2009
Wikitude World Browser is an augmented reality (AR) browser for the Android platform based on location-based Wikipedia and Qype content. It is a handy application for planning a trip or to find out about landmarks in your surroundings; 350,000 world-wide points of interest may be searched by GPS or by address and displayed in a list view, map view and “Augmented Reality” cam view.
The latest version of WIKITUDE World Browser includes an Augmented Reality Photo Feature, which allows you to capture and share the AR camera view you experience through your mobile.

Hi there!
I attended a conference which mentioned Wikitude and it sounded to me like the best thing ever. Unfortunately this was just after I got my brand spankin’ new Blackberry Curve. Will this application EVER be available for BB?? :’(
Blackberry does not offer the required APIs. But we keep a close look, of course. Regards, –Ph
how about iPhone OS?
Wikitude does not seem to be available for download for the cupcake version.
Only the premium version seems to be visible on the market. Is-it normal ? Any other place to download it and give it a try ?
How about iphone…. lol you saved my day
What about Layar: First Mobile Augmented Reality Browser?

Hi! You should port Wikitude to Maemo, now that Nokia has announced the N900 handset that’s looking like a very strong contender. Shouldn’t be too big a task, since Maemo has a Debian GNU/Linux core.
[...] As an iPhone user, I think it’s great that these augmented reality apps are finally coming out for my addiction, but is the iPhone really the best device currently available for AR? After all, AR has been available on the Android G1 phone for nearly a year now (see Wikitude). [...]
I like it!!!
@Mikko Lahti
Maemo will die an early death/never reach critical mass – just like the S60 v5 until Nokia does not get behind creating and SUPPORTING application development for its platforms.
Besides, the Maemo does NOT have a digital compass compared to the new Android phones – hence the application will be limited in its accuracy and usability.
“share the AR camera view you experience through your mobile.”
I really liked this feature. Nice article!
I am using HTC Tattoo but cannot find the app over Android Marketplace. Is this app actually available for download for this phone? Tnx
